Christmas in Norway

Fun, festive skiing

This Christmas join skiNorway in Trysil or Hemsedal, for a magical festive experience that you’ll never forget. December is an enchanting time of the year in Norway; skiing in the stunning winter light is an experience never to be forgotten, and neither is retiring to your accommodation in the evening for a cosy night with family and friends.

Skiing at Christmas

In December the days are only a little shorter than in the UK and you’ll have plenty of time for more than 6 hours of skiing, including on Christmas day. If you’re still raring to go you can enjoy night skiing on floodlit slopes 3 nights a week. Trysil and Hemsedal have a snow guarantee for skiing throughout December, so you can book your Christmas ski holiday in confidence that there will be plenty of skiing to enjoy.

Optional Activities

Husky sledding

Husky sledding is an iconic part of Scandinavian culture and is a great way to experience the stunning scenery from a different perspective. Husky sledding adventures are available from most of our resorts so speak to your skiNorway expert for more information and to book.

Star gazing in Trysil

Norway has low levels of light pollution which is great for experiencing the night sky in a way you might not have before. If you’re lucky the Northern Lights can sometimes be seen from Trysil. Star gazing must be booked in resort as it’s weather dependent, so contact your skiNorway resort representative during your stay.

Cross-country skiing

Another iconic Scandinavian pastime is cross-country skiing, and it really is an enjoyable way to immerse yourself in the local nature and culture. Lessons and equipment hire are widely available in advance and in resort, so contact your skiNorway expert for more information.

Private visit from Santa

We can arrange a private visit from Santa to make your Christmas holiday even more magical. Father Christmas is very busy at this time of year, so it’s really important to let us know in advance if this exclusive visit is something you’d like to arrange.

Christmas decorations

There’s no need to bring your tree with you, just let us know and we can arrange for a tree to be in your hotel room or apartment. We can also supply decorations, though we usually leave the honours of decorating to you, as decorating the tree together is a festive tradition for Norwegian families.

Horse sleigh ride

Listen to the sounds of the horses’ bells and enjoy magical evening as you glide across the snow to your destination in the snow-capped forest. You’ll stop at a traditional hut – a canvass wrapped Scandinavian tepee warmed by an open fire – for a hearty dinner of stew or sausages in this magical setting. Once you’ve had your fill it’s back to the sleds for the cosy journey home, wrapped in reindeer furs against the starry night.
