Ski-touring for beginners
The week-long trip begins on the pistes of Hemsedal where you will learn about equipment, techniques and how to adjust your skiing style to the terrain. Once you’ve mastered the basics from a fully qualified mountain guide you will explore further afield, beginning with the backcountry around Hemsedal before moving onto the UNESCO world heritage region surrounding Flåm. Start straight from the door of your secluded family run hotel on the world renowned Flåm Railway as you head out into the majestic fjord region of the west Norwegian coast for even more unforgettable experiences.

Fly to Oslo and transfer to Hemsedal by train or skiNorway transfer. You’ll stay in the Skarnuten Hotel overlooking the ski resort of Hemsedal for the first 4 nights of your holiday.
Your guide will run you through the basics of the equipment and techniques before you head out into the resort of Hemsedal. You will do a mixture of on-piste and off-piste skiing as you familiarise yourself with the equipment and learn how to adjust your skiing style to the terrain and snow conditions.
Your instruction and guidance will continue as you head out for some ski-touring in the mountains surrounding Hemsedal. Instruction will include ski touring basics, skinning technique, route finding, risk evaluation, search and rescue techniques and how to move safely and efficiently through the backcountry. Your guide will choose the terrain based on snow conditions and the wishes of the group.
Head out for another day of ski-touring around Hemsedal, building on the skills learnt over the previous days.
Today you’ll head to the UNESCO listed Flåm region by private mini-bus before transferring to the world-renowned Flåm Railway for the last leg of your journey to the Vatnehalsen Hotel. Only accessible by train, foot or ski, this secluded hotel has a lovely atmosphere and stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Today you’ll go ski touring in the area around Vatnahalsen, either direct from the hotel steps or by taking a few stops on the train depending on conditions and the wishes of the group. Conditions permitting you’ll end the day at sea level, perhaps stopping at the Ægir micro-brewery in Flåm itself.
A last day of ski touring in the Vatnahalsen region before taking the train to Oslo for your final night.
